Shohei-Ryu Karatedo is a traditional Okinawan Karate system which enables the student the ability to establish self-confidence, self-awareness, and self-defense. Shohei-Ryu also provides the student a well rounded fitness program for the mind, body, and spirit.
This system has unique blocking, grasping, and striking techniques. Some techniques seem simple to the eye but take great time to break down and master. When done properly and precisely, they can be devastating. Health and fitness can be achieved in Shohei-Ryu through conditioning and consistent training. Proper training and conditioning will enhance your strength, flexibility, endurance, focus, and self-control.
Brief History
Shohei-Ryu is a classic traditional martial art developed in Okinawa, Japan based on the Tiger, Dragon and Crane fighting systems derived in the Shaolin Temples of Southern China. This style was once known as Pangainoon (meaning half-hard, half-soft) or Fwange-Nun in China. Pangainoon was a form of Chinese Boxing. Master Kanbun Uechi, at 20 years of age, began studying Pangainoon under a master named Shusshabu in the years from 1897 to 1907. Shusshabu was the last known instructor of Pangainoon in China. Master Uechi opened his first (Pangainoon) school in 1907 and was responsible for bringing this ancient secret art out of China and keeping it from being lost forever. The system as Master Uechi taught it was renamed to Uechi-Ryu in 1940 and he was awarded the title of Grandmaster. Shohei-Ryu was formed in 1991 with the same basis and concepts of Uechi-Ryu.
